Ted Hood Yacht Design's Expedition Motor Yacht Series
Ted Hood’s newly re-designed Expedition Series of ocean going yachts has undergone numerous improvements, combining upgraded aesthetic appeal with enhanced performance and capabilities.
The modified hull shape allows for better placement of tankage (with approximately 70% of fuel and water tanks located below the lower sole), an increase of interior volume, and projected top-end performance. The new placement of tankage provides improved stability while adding to the already spacious accommodations. Additionally, the overall beam has been increased without increasing beam at the waterline, so as to maintain the hull’s efficiency through the water while increasing its reserve buoyancy. The end result is a more sea-worthy yacht which is easily handled, even in adverse conditions.
The Expedition series are tank-tested designs modeled to be ocean going ships with their large wave-piercing bow for added comfort in head seas. The Expedition’s aft chine hull styling was designed for stability and increased speed. This style, coupled with well placed stabilizers, assures a pleasant passage in off-shore conditions. They are handsome yachts, as only Ted Hood can draw; ready to cruise around the world in safety and confidence.
The larger Expedition yachts have a four level design, with virtually no steps up or down, running bow to stern, on all levels. The immense pilothouses are 35% aft for an easy motion at sea. The elegant salon, adjacent galley and day head are all located on the aft main deck.
The bridge deck (above the salon and guest staterooms) holds the owner’s stateroom with king sized bed. The stateroom spans the width of the ship and has large windows on both sides with sliding doors out to the private aft deck for lounging in the shade of the flybridge deck and sun exposure further aft. The private suite’s hanging lockers, large bureaus, study desks with chairs, a dressing room, his & hers heads, and spacious layout all contribute to a luxurious setting.
Forward of the owner’s stateroom, the bridge deck has 270 degree views and a heightened position large sofa with table for guests to enjoy the view under way.
On the lower machinery deck, the engine room allows easy access to all components of the engines, generators, water maker, fuel polishing systems, and stabilizers. Forward of the engine room is the utility room with washer, dryer, freezer, and living quarters for crew. There is a full headroom passageway forward to the water-tight bow thruster area with fuel tanks on each side and storage lockers above.
The Expedition series are custom yachts designed for cruising all regions of the world; East coast, Baltic, Pacific Northwest, Baja, Caribbean, French Polynesia, or the Mediterranean. Each Expedition yacht is intended to be constructed to the owner’s specifications and interests, whether it is entertaining, exploring, SCUBA, or living and cruising with family.
